What some Amazon reviewers are saying:

“How to Party online' is clear and concise, written with Janice's trademark humour, well-illustrated by personal examples and detailed timetables to take you step by step through the process.”

“Janice also adds a very nice personal touch to it all with her charm and humour. In fact it's like getting help from a friend. You really should get a copy, after all, who doesn't love a party?!”

“Janice's parties are fun, inventive and has those elements that are vital for promotion - reader participation and heaps of fun!”

“This book explains, step-by-step, how to prepare for a book launch and do it with style! What I particularly liked about this book is the style in which it's written and the fact that there is a timeline to the planning.”

DG Life Magazine. "Janice has made it her business to get stuck into the whole self-publishing malarkey. Savvy enough to realise it's not enough to simply write, she's studied social media marketing until it could be her specialist subject on Mastermind. She can plan a book launch, maximise publicity, keep the momentum going after the first initial flush, and perhaps most of all, she knows how to make the whole thing fun, which is no mean feat".

How To Party Online:

*Online parties are a fun way to launch your book or introduce your product and engage with your target audience.
*Social media applications are perfect forums for parties - the venue capacity is infinite, the guest list is global, and the fun and games can lead to bestselling success!
*This aim of this book is to show you how you can produce measurable results from your very first online party and while you are still working towards building up your social network.
*The purpose of this book is to walk and talk you through each step of the planning and implementation of four very different online promotional parties.
*Together we will look at how much work and effort is involved in implementing each step and we will experience the party format, explore the outcomes, and quantify all the successes.
*I'll show you how to make it lots of fun!

Comments from the party peeps themselves:

"Absolutely LOVE your blog parties!"
"The idea of having us post photos was brilliant in that it set up a series of interactions between lots of the different people who came - some of whom I'd never 'met' before."
"Love how you come up with such innovative ideas for each one."
"Great fun!"
"The party was a blast! I loved it."
"It was great being a part of something that involved so many different blogs. It was very unique and totally engaging!"

The 777 Challenge

I’ve been tagged by my lovely friend Emma Calin in the 777 challenge.
The rules... Go to Page 7, 70, or 170 of a current Work in Progress or recently published work and choose either the first complete paragraph or 7 lines of dialogue to share. Paste to FB and tag 7 other authors to do the same.
Here is a paragraph excerpt from Page 7 of ‘How To Party Online’
You might be under the impression that to be successful online, you have to have an established social network in place, but that’s not strictly true. I started promoting online without a pre-existing social platform and did so successfully. In this book, I aim to show you how you too can produce measurable results from your very first online party and, while you are working towards building up your social network, how to make it fun.
And on Wednesday 31st July I’m hosting an online party to officially launch ‘How To Party Online’ and love you to join me on the day. Before then do pop over to the party page on Facebook and check it out. I promise fun and prizes!

Partying, Planning & Plotting...

This week has whizzed by in a blur. I remember starting the week in the City of Glasgow – at a rock concert on Monday night – I’m not as young as I used to be so I’ll admit that it was Wednesday before I fully recovered!

Since then I’ve been busily planning and booking tickets for The Festival of Romance weekend in Bedford later in the year, where I’ve now confirmed I’ll be attending as an author at the Saturday Coffee & Cake Event. Yay!! I’ve also booked a hotel and my flights from Glasgow to Luton and back, so I’m feeling rather pleased with myself for being organised so well in advance!

You can find out about The Festival of Romance HERE.

In the more immediate future - next week in fact - I’m planning to go up to Aberdeenshire to stay over and meet up with some of my Scottish Writer buddies at a cliff top cottage retreat. It really is as idyllic as it sounds. There we will writerly chat, a plotting workshop, a catch up on where we are all at with our writing at the moment, and of course wine. It will be blissful and wonderful!

A Clifftop Writer's Retreat in Aberdeenshire

I’m also planning to have an online party later next month to celebrate the publication of my How To Party Online book and I will be outlining the details very soon – as at the moment I’m still in the plotting – erm, planning stages.

But you know I love a party don’t you…?!

Okay, I’ll let you in on what the theme will be.

It will be ‘PARTY’.
So I’ll be looking for photos of YOU dressed up in your party attire. Will you be in fancy dress, I wonder? (See below!) Will you at a fancy cocktail party? Will it be a wild hen party celebration? Or a very smart birthday party…?

It’s up to YOU!!!

Party details coming soon!!

Party On – virtually!

This week I’ve attended several Facebook Events – virtual parties where peeps can share photos, comments, laughs and celebrations – and it was all fabulous fun!

When I hosted my first virtual party, Mr JH thought I’d gone a bit crazy and he couldn’t stop laughing. He just couldn’t see the point of fun without leaving your laptop or even changing out of your PJ’s (this has happened to me – as virtual partying, being global and therefore 24/7, can be surprisingly all consuming!) But fun it certainly is and even more so if you can laugh your way up a bestseller chart or two at the same time.
Over the past year, I’ve been prompted to explore online partying in greater detail, from both the promotional angle and the fun aspect. During that time, I’ve been asked many times how to plan, organise, arrange, and host a variety of fabulous and fun online party events. I was even asked to talk on the subject at a ‘real’ writer’s event last summer. As a result, I’m now collating this advice for online party peeps as an ebook.
My cover designer finalised the cover this week and I’m thrilled with it – what do you think?

How To Party Online will soon be available to download from Amazon.

I was thrilled with this quote from DG Life Magazine and I have used an extract from it on the cover of How To Party Online.
Janice has made it her business to get stuck into the whole self-publishing malarkey. Savvy enough to realise it’s not enough to simply write, she’s studied social media marketing until it could be her specialist subject on Mastermind. She can plan a book launch, maximise publicity, keep the momentum going after the first initial flush, and perhaps most of all, she knows how to make the whole thing fun, which is no mean feat”.  DG Life Magazine.

So while I’m still busy exploring virtual party fun -
what are you doing this Easter weekend?

Help with The Work in Progress...

One of my current writing projects is a work of non-fiction – it’s a 'How To' on tackling aspects of online promotion and making it fun. I’ve been prompted to write this by lots of lovely fellow writers who, over past year or so, have emailed me for advice on hosting online parties to promote or launch their book/s.

Some of those writers are debut novelists and others multi-pubbed. Some are with traditional publishers and others are indie. Most have previously attended or taken part (and reportedly enjoyed) my launch parties and want to know how I did it and more to the point, how they can do it too.

The title of this new and fun look at book promo is ‘How to Promote Party Online’ with the emphasis on the party aspect, because everyone wants to have fun, right?

So, I have a couple of questions for you to help me with research and I’d really appreciate your comments. You can leave them here on the blog or in an email to me at: janice@janicehortonwriter.co.uk

Q1: Have you attended one or more of my launch parties - which one/s?

Q2: Did you personally find it fun and engaging – and can you say why?

If you are not familiar with, or like me you were a bit giddy with virtual fizz at the time, then these links will give you a wee recap on our previous online frivolities:

Reaching for the Stars – Wish I Was Here Party

How Do You Voodoo? – The Spellbindingly Fun Party

Voodoo Wedding – Facebook & Twitter Party

I’d really appreciate your feedback as it will help me enormously. The info you give will help me to focus on giving helpful advice. If I would like to use your comment as a quote – please be assured that I would always contact you first to ask for your permission. The book will be available soon from Amazon for Kindle. Thank you in advance.

Love, Janice xx
